SDSU Adds Advanced Tech Degree

Applications for the new degree are being accepted now.

San Diego State University College of Business Administration will offer a master's degree in information systems.

Though the business college provides an MBA program with a specialization in information systems, the new curriculum is appropriate for students considering a business career that may lead to a chief information or technology officer post, according to university officials.

Interested students may apply immediately for admission to the MSIS degree program, and, if accepted, may begin studying as early as the spring semester, university officials said.

The degree, which will provide an internationally recognized credential, was modeled on a curriculum jointly published by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Association of Information Systems.

“The MSIS is a business degree that focuses on leveraging the
information assets of an organization and aligning its information-technology strategy with its business strategy,” said Robert Plice, chairman of the Management Information Systems Department.

“As technology changes, firms must recognize opportunities to invest in systems for making smarter decisions, increasing their clock speed and achieving secure process integration with their business partners. This degree program prepares students to do that.”

San Diego State University offers 77 master's degrees,
