USS Carl Vinson Crew Member Honored as Local ‘Sailor of Year’

She was one of two named by the Third Fleet; they will be part of a contest for the Pacific Fleet title.

The Navy's San Diego-based Third Fleet announced today that two information systems technicians are its Sailors of the Year for 2012.

Ebony Torres was named Shore Sailor of the Year and Shantae Clark the Sea Sailor of the Year by Vice Adm. Gerald Beaman, the Third Fleet Commander.

"All Sailors of the Year represent the very best of their commands throughout the year," Beaman said. "They have been selected for their consistently superior on-the-job performance and scrupulous adherence to the Navy core values of honor, courage, and commitment."

Torres is her department's lead petty officer and Clark is deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which is based at Coronado.

The two will go on to a Pacific Fleet competition in which the winner will be promoted to chief petty officer. The Pacific Fleet honorees will continue to a service-wide contest.
