Tourist Sparked Scare in Military Housing

Authorities say man presented no danger.

A tourist from Hawaii was found to be the person , an incident that led to a brief investigation and fears that a threat existed.

Coronado police released a brief statement today saying that the person “has been fully investigated and there is no nexus to a potential threat or criminal conduct.”

Police said the man, a tourist and amateur photographer, was tracked to his residence in Hawaii, and interviewed and vetted through federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. He had been spotted videotaping from the street in a military neighborhood near the Silver Strand on Sept. 11.

“There is absolutely no indication of anything untoward,” authorities said in the statement.

Police, school and Navy officials briefed residents on the matter at a regularly scheduled PTA meeting at Silver Strand Elementary Friday.

Police asked the public to continue to report incidents that are out of the ordinary, but also asked that they review guidelines on suspicious behavior at www.readysandiego.org.
