Attorney Makes Formal Request for New Probe Into Zahau's Death

Family contends Rebecca Zahau did not kill herself in July incident that was ruled a suicide by hanging by the Sheriff's department.

An attorney for Rebecca Zahau's family announced late Friday that she had submitted a request to state Attorney General Kamala Harris seeking a new investigation into the woman's death.

Zahau, the 32-year-old girlfriend of Arizona pharmaceuticals mogul Jonah Shacknai, .

to the dismay of Zahau's family, for an independent inquiry into how she died.

“Our letter requesting an independent investigation in the Rebecca Zahau case went to the AG's office today,” Bremner posted in a Facebook message. “We had every detail, every anomaly every question covered. Wish us luck! We need and thank you for your support!”

She also announced the request via Twitter.

Detectives argued that Zahau killed herself in despair over the declining condition of Shacknai's son, who had suffered head injuries in a fall at the mansion two days earlier. He died three days after Zahau.

, are a few of several anomalies that indicate Zahau died by another's hand.

Harris earlier , but wanted a review because of public criticism about the suicide ruling.

We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
