William E. de Malignon, 81, Educator and Music Lover, Dies

He served in the Navy and was a professor at San Diego State and the University of San Diego.

William E. de Malignon, who was educated on a Navy scholarship and went on to become a local professor, has died, according to Legacy.com. He was 81.

De Malignon began his naval service 60 years ago, and after being assigned to the USS Midway and USS Lexington, he ended it at Naval Air Station North Island in 1956.

The father of three was a professor of mathematics at San Diego State University before settling in for a long career at the University of San Diego.

He also enjoyed music and performed with local chamber groups and community orchestras, including the Jewish Community Center Orchestra/Tifereth Israel Community Orchestra and New City Sinfonia, according to the report.

Services are planned for 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4190 Front St., San Diego.
