Update: Power Restored to Base, Cays, Parts of IB and San Diego

SDG&E reported that outage had hit nearly 2,000 customers.

Update, 10 p.m. Wednesday: The city of Coronado reports via Twitter that power has been restored, though the cause is still being looked into.

****

The power has been out on a stretch of Silver Strand Boulevard extending from Coronado down to Imperial Beach, in addition to areas across the bay, for more than an hour, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

The affected areas include the Cays, North Island Naval Air Station and Naval Base San Diego and areas near the Tijuana Estuary.

The outage was reported at 8:28 p.m, but power should be restored before midnight, utility officials noted on SDG&E's website.

Officials attributed the outage to a “suspected problem in the overhead electrical system” and said it had affected 1,775 customers.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
