Update, 9:30 p.m. Thursday: The Associated Press, via the Huffington Post, has reported that Dr. Beach, a Florida professor who evaluates beach quality, has picked Coronado as the best beach in the nation. It is the first time the expert has chosen a California beach for the honor, reports the AP. His web site, however, has yet to post the list, which the AP says includes beaches in Hawaii, New York, Florida and Massachusetts.
So Coronado beaches received one wave of good news Thursday, along the state's shores.
Will there be more Friday?
Dr. Beach is set to name his annual list of best beaches Friday, according to his web site, but someone may have already let the cat out of the bag, with the Washington Examiner reporting that Coronado snagged the top spot.
Dr. Beach – really Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University – , and the Orange County Register explained last week why that's a pretty tidy predictor that the community will rise to the top spot.
What say you Coronado, a community long accustomed to making best-of lists? Is the Dr. Beach title important or just another honor for the growing pile?
