  • Why go: Granted, gas prices are beginning to come back to earth, but you can join in and save a little dough, make a political statement or just get a workout, while snagging prizes, because local companies will hand out swag to bikers during the morning commute.

  • Where/when: , 640 Orange Ave., Coronado, 9 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why go:  continues the monthly practice of bringing residents together to share the bounties of their gardens. They turn in one bag of their fresh fruits and vegetables in exchange for those produced by another gardener. 
  • Price: Free.
  • Where/when: , 640 Orange Ave., Coronado, 4 p.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: Jazz pianist Judy Carmichael performs.
  • Price: Free.

BEST BETS, A LITTLE FARTHER OUT

  • Where/when: Morgan Run Club and Resort, 5690 Cancha de Golf, Rancho Santa Fe, Friday through Sunday.
  • Why go: You like the New Orleans Saints? See Super Bowl MVP (and former Charger) Drew Brees. You like the Dallas Cowboys? See Tony Romo. You like TV? See Ray Romano. It's all possible at the Cox Celebrity Championship, a charity golf tournament to benefit local causes.
  • Price: $10 for three-day pass, but there are several opportunities for free admission.
  • Where/when: Broadway Pier, N Harbor Dr. & W Broadway, San Diego, 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: The Port of San Diego will host a free celebration at the Port Pavilion on the pier, featuring maritime exhibits, interactive displays, refreshments, entertainment, carnival rides and prizes.
  • Price: Free.
  • Where/when: , 301 Caspian Way, Imperial Beach, 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: The estuary's speaker series tackles the timely subject of grunion runs, those odd spectacles where thousands of fish can be spotted along the shore.
  • Price: Free.
