Get to Know Coronado's Only Consignment Shop — Jackrabbits

Jackrabbits consignment shop sells local items at 1127 Loma Avenue.

Anne Boston Parish opened her consignment shop two years ago as a connection with the city’s history. She even named it after the island’s first residents – jackrabbits. It remains the only store of its kind on the island.

The shop is located on Loma Avenue, in the Old Court House building, is right behind the Bank of Coronado and across the street from Chez Loma. It’s filled with furniture, books, toys and china, much of it from another era.

Patch: Why did you open a consignment shop?

Anne Boston Parish: I was a practical nurse, but after my mother died, I couldn’t face watching people die anymore. I wanted to do something different. Selling vintage things was a way to connect with my family’s history.  We’ve been here for three generations. Working in the shop ties me to my family’s history.

Patch: What do you do with the items people bring to you?

Parish: I spend a lot of time pushing things around the shop, so people can see how pretty they are.

Recently I took a vintage desk that was slightly damaged and painted its a bright, sky blue and gave it some life. Sometimes I’ll pull several items together and wrap them up in one package—a picnic basket with cups, plates and a lace tablecloth, or an old fashioned wooden toolbox filled with Hardy Boy mysteries.

Patch: How do you decide what to charge?

Parish: I look on eBay to see what they’re charging for a similar item and price mine a little lower. There is also a nominal delivery charge for items to large to carry.

Patch: What about people who prefer to buy online?

Parish: Everything in the store is on our website – coronadofurnitureconsignments.com. People can go to the new arrivals section and order directly from there.  Or you can use it to get an idea of what we have before coming in.

Patch: Where do the items in your shop come from?

Parish: Everything we sell comes from locals, as do most of our customers. In that sense we’re more than just a shop, were a place that neighbors sell to neighbors. Many of the things they bring us are family heirlooms. Some are over a 100 years old. Can you imagine the stories they have to tell?
