Coronado Naval Academy Grad Killed in Alabama Car Wreck

Kyle McArthur was one of two killed in the crash, which left three other academy grads injured. He was preparing to be a Navy pilot.

A Coronado graduate of the Naval Academy who was set to become a naval aviator was killed in an Alabama car wreck Sunday, according to a web report.

Kyle Christopher McArthur, 25, died, along with another 2011 academy grad, Patrick Hunt Drury, 25, according to CapialGazette.com

Three others were injured, but not seriously, in the early morning wreck near York, Ala. The driver hit a vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate, the report said.

The report notes that the tragedy follows another in March in which three Naval Academy grads were killed, in a Spokane plane crash.

The Naval Academy noted the Sunday deaths on its Facebook page:

“It is with great sadness that we report the passing of two of our own. LTJG Patrick Drury and LTJG Kyle McArthur, Class of 2011 graduates, were killed in an automobile accident in Alabama yesterday. Both were stationed at NAS Meridian, pursuing their dreams of becoming Naval Aviators. Today we send our thoughts, prayers and most sincere condolences to their family and friends. Shipmates, rest your oars. The watch has been relieved.”
