The Rotary Club of Coronado has been serving the community through its humanitarian efforts since 1926. As part of theMore worldwide Rotary organization, the club's motto is, "Service above self." It achieves this through a variety of activities, from feeding the homeless to promoting literacy. The local chapter has enhanced the community by building sites like Rotary Park, home of the beloved Coronado Christmas tree, and by sponsoring events like the Low Tide Ride & Stride, a beach bike/run that benefits active duty service members and veterans of the U.S. Military. The original club of 22 members has grown into more than 230 Rotarians – all leading citizens within the community. They meet every Wednesday at noon in the famed Hotel Del Coronado, a club tradition since 1927. Membership is by invitation only and members of other rotary clubs are welcome to stop by the weekly meetings at the Del.

The landmark restaurant has been in businessMore since the '80s. Owner Marty Jensen has lived in Coronado since 1975 and is very fond of the area. The atmosphere of the establishment is intimate and family friendly, and the seafood and steak are well worth the visit. Drink specials are available during happy hour every day but Saturday, from 5pm - 6:30pm. </p> <p>Interesting fact: The original boathouse was built in 1887, the year before the Hotel Del was constructed. It was used as a model and training site, where construction workers, electricians and plumbers could hone their skills before starting on the hotel. Hence the reason the two structures appear so similar in style.</p>

Spreckels Park

Named after one of Coronado's founding fathers and a former owner of the Hotel del Coronado, Spreckels Park is aMore place that beckons people of all ages. With sprawling lawns and a large play structure for children, the park gives kids enough space to run around but still be visible at all times. In the summer, the park hosts a concert series every Sunday from the end of May to the middle of September. Visitors and locals are encouraged to bring a blanket, food and drinks, and enjoy a picnic in the park while listening to some excellent tunes.</p> <p>Private and special events can be held at Spreckels Park. The gazebo, which is located in the center of the property, is an especially magical place for a wedding. Parties of 20 or more need to make reservations with the city of Coronado. It is the only park on the island that can accommodate electricity.</p>
