In 2009, the school had a total enrollment of eight students, and the program has been recognized as a state model.

The school serves about 700 students in grades 6 through 8, and it shares its state-of-the-art athletic facilities with the nearby high school. CMS strives to provide an optimal learning environment for its students. Its classrooms are equipped with the latest technology and a wireless network runs throughout the campus. The school also participates in a voluntary laptop program, which allows students to bring their personal computers to school.

The school was founded in 1922, and its most recent set of renovations was completed in 2006. </p> <p>In 2009, CHS scored higher than any other comprehensive high school in the county, according to the state's Academic Performance Index (API).</p> <p>In addition, thanks to the support of the community and local nonprofits, the school runs a full athletic program, with state-of-the-art football, baseball, tennis and aquatic facilities. There is also a resident School of the Arts (CoSA) located on campus.</p>

Coronado School of the Arts

The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is a high school for the performing and creative arts. It's a "school within aMore school" located on the campus of Coronado High School. The program offers students with passion and talent an opportunity to hone their skills further through an intensive arts curriculum, which adds an extra two hours of classes to their daily academic schedule. The conservatory-style instruction includes: instrumental music, musical theater/drama, technical theater, classical and contemporary dance and visual art. CoSA also has a Digital Media and Filmmaking Department. In addition to their coursework, students perform in various concerts, productions and exhibitions throughout the year. As a result of its success, California has recognized CoSA as a demonstration site for the state.</p> <p>Admission is open to students throughout San Diego County, and admission is granted by application and/or recommendation only.</p>

Early Childhood Development Center

This state-funded public preschool and kindergarten is part of the Coronado Unified School District. Accepting preschoolMore students aged 3 to 4 years old and kindergarten students based on age and readiness, the facility works in cooperation with the San Diego County Centralized Eligibility List (CEL) to offer subsidized child care to those families who qualify for funding.  Preschool enrollment priority is given to children of families who meet these eligibility criteria. The grounds are safe and enclosed and have a playground as well as classroom facilities. Programs and activities are scheduled Monday through Friday, with times varying for the different age groups. For more information, parents may call or visit in person during office hours.
