The beach runs along Ocean Boulevard and offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, from the cliffs of Point Loma to the coast of Mexico. </p> <p>This beach has been a tourist destination since 1888, when the world-famous Hotel Del Coronado opened in front of the area now known as "South Beach." Today, popular activities include beach volleyball, body boarding and fishing. Be sure to bring flip-flops: The beach is wide, the walk from the street to the shoreline is long, and the sand can scorch bare feet. </p> <p>Dog are allowed on the north end, and there are fire rings for evening bonfires. On the south end, beachgoers can check out the Monte Carlo shipwreck, which is visible when the tide is low. This old gambling ship sank on New Year's Eve in 1936.</p> <p>The main lifeguard tower is located at the intersection of Isabella Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. The North and South beaches have portable lifeguard towers, with lifeguards on duty from 9am until dusk. The beach also has public restrooms and showers.</p> <p>Coronado Central Beach has repeatedly been voted one of America's Best Beaches. </p> <p> </p>
