If so, you’ll want to see the list below of five suggestions to make your children’s snack-life healthier. Remember to choose organic whenever possible because children's bodies are developing and still immature, so babies and young children are more susceptible to the negative effects of pesticides and unnatural ingredients. Try keeping fresh cut fruits and vegetables in the fridge. Kids can take what they want without…

A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close the San Diego restaurant Wednesday.
The eatery bearing the name of the late Chargers star Junior Seau ceased operations Wednesday. Seau died two weeks ago from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in a spare bedroom of his Oceanside beachfront house. He was laid to rest on Friday, hours before a public memorial drew thousands of mourning fans to Qualcomm Stadium. A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close Seau's The Restaurant, which opened in 1996. "The trustees made their decision to honor Seau's legacy and preserve the memories of the excitement, fun and warmth that were the hallmarks of the restaurant during the famed linebacker's lifetime," said Bette Hoffman, a trustee, former director of the Junior Seau Foundation and ex-vice president of Seau…
No injuries and no fuel spills were noted, according to reports.
The amphibious assault ship USS Essex, based in Japan the past 12 years, is scheduled to return to San Diego Thursday, the Navy announced. A mishap occured Wednesday morning, though, according to the Associated Press, when the ship had a minor collision with a replenishment tanker, the USNS Yukon, about 120 miles off local shores. No injuries or major damage was found, the agency reported. The Navy swapped out ships and crews last month. The USS Bonhomme Richard replaced the Essex in Sasebo, Japan, and the Bonhomme Richard's crew is returning the Essex to San Diego, where it used to be based. "I know there are a lot of former crew members and fans of the ship still in the area, so it is going to be a real pleasure to re-introduce 'The Iron…
The project is a call to veterans, friends and families to have dog tags replicated and included on pillars at the Fleet Reserve Association in Imperial Beach. Donations will help raise funds for organizations that support local vets.
"Thank You" is an eagle with a 7-foot wingspan with armor and feathers made in part with replicas of veterans' dog tags. Artist Cathy Janes said the statue began in 2009 when she asked Fleet Reserve Association Branch 289 in Imperial Beach to put a jar at the bar to collect donations, and ended up with a place to build the sculpture, hundreds of dollars in donations and a helping hand when she needed it. It couldn't have been made without support from local veterans in Imperial Beach, Coronado and elsewhere, she said. "I'm not even from here, and everybody just jumped to help," she said. "At the end I was behind in getting it finished, and sculpting in National City, and two guys with drills in their hands showed up and stayed up all night…
Nearly 30 team members qualified for the upcoming meet during last week's city conference finals.
Several members of Coronado High School's boys and girls swim teams will compete Thursday in the preliminary rounds of the Division II CIF Championships. Both teams finished in second place in La Jolla. The finals are set for Saturday. In a statement coaches Dave Hughes and Randall Burgess called the La Jolla event “a significantly successful afternoon.” Some of the highlights:
Gov. Jerry Brown again calls for support of November initiatives to ease California budget deficit.
Gov. Jerry Brown says K-12 schools and both state university systems will suffer even more cuts and force tuition increases if California voters don’t approve a quarter-cent bump in the state’s sales tax rate to 7.5 percent and boost the income tax rate for people making more than $250,000 a year. His critics say the projected $16 billion state budget deficit can be erased without voter-approved tax hikes in November. Whose arguments do you buy?

If it made money they would have kept it open. It may have been losing money, or marginally profitable. I am reminded of this quote from Citizen Kane: "You're right, I did lose a million dollars last year. I expect to lose a million dollars this year. I expect to lose a million dollars next year. You know, Mr. Thatcher, at the rate of a million dollars a year, I'll have to close this place in, 60…   more ›
