The Rotary Club of Coronado has been serving the community through its humanitarian efforts since 1926. As part of the worldwide Rotary organization, the club's motto is, "Service above self." It achieves this through a variety of activities, from feeding the homeless to promoting literacy. The local chapter has enhanced the community by building sites like Rotary Park, home of the beloved Coronado Christmas tree, and by sponsoring events like the Low Tide Ride & Stride, a beach bike/run that benefits active duty service members and veterans of the U.S. Military. The original club of 22 members has grown into more than 230 Rotarians – all leading citizens within the community. They meet every Wednesday at noon in the famed Hotel Del Coronado, a club tradition since 1927. Membership is by invitation only and members of other rotary clubs are welcome to stop by the weekly meetings at the Del.
