5 Things to Know for Nov. 18-24 in Coronado

Here are five things every Coronado resident and visitor needs to know this week.

Hungry for the Hunger Games?

Come watch the Hunger Games at the Coronado Library before Catching Fire comes out in theaters Nov. 22. The movie is rated PG-13, with a runtime of 142 minutes. This event is for those in 6th-12th grade. The movie will play on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Time Is Running Out to See SUDS

SUDS, a musical at the Coronado Playhouse, runs for just two more weeks in Coronado. The play begins with the story of laundromat worker Cindy, who is dumped by her pen-pal boyfriend on her birthday, and quickly turns into a 60's musical soap opera. This homegrown San Diego musical broke box office records at the Old Globe Theatre before moving to Off-Broadway and has continued to be produced all over the United States, Canada and Australia. On Thursday and Friday, the Coronado School of the Arts Rep Company will present student-crafted short scenes ranging from harrowing to hilarious. The sketches are primarily improvised dialogue. Performances are in the Black Box Theatre at Coronado High School, located at 650 D Ave. Coronado, 92118. 

Show times are at 7 pm. Tickets, available at the door 30 minutes prior to show time, are $5 for the public and $3 for CUSD students and staff.

Finally Quit Smoking

Wanting to quit smoking? You can do it with company on Thursday, the Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The society says tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US.
