5 Can't-Miss Events in Coronado This Week

Here are five events Coronado residents should not miss during the week of Sept. 16 to Sept. 22.


1. Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival tickets are now on sale. The 16th Annual Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival will take place Sept. 21-22 at Naval Air Station North Island. 

2. The Pet Parade & Chili Cookoff will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22 at Promenade Park on Strand Way.

3. The Tempest, the 17th annual free Coronado Shakespeare production runs at the Coronado Playhouse through Sunday, Sept. 22. Don't miss the show. Ticket information here.

4. Have a Wizard of Oz weekend. In celebration of the re-release of the 1939 movie in IMAX, the Hotel Del Coronado is honoring Oz author L. Frank Baum's legacy on Saturday and Sunday with events.

Saturday, Sept. 21:

  • Meet the "Wicked Witch" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Meet Del Historian Chris Donovan from 1 to 3 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 22:
  • Meet the "Wicked Witch" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Meet Del Historian Chris Donovan from noon to 2 p.m.
5. Learn CPR on Tuesday. The four-hour class is taught by Coronado Fire personnel and held at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 700 Orange Ave. The class covers adult, child and Infant CPR, as well as AED. There is a $25 fee paid at the time of the class. Participants earn an American Heart Association book and CPR card. The class is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact the Coronado Fire Department for information and registration 619-522-7374.
