Locals Layne Beaubien, 35, and Jesse Smith, 29, are going to the Olympic games in London, USA Water Polo announced Monday.
Both are two-time Olympians, having competed in the 2004 and the 2008 games. They helped the U.S. capture the silver medal in 2008 in Beijing.
They are part of a veteran team that features 10 players with Olympic experience; two of them, Tony Azevedo and Ryan Bailey, will be part of the Summer Olympics for the fourth time.
The team already knows its competition schedule, in Group B:
- Montenegro – July 29
- Romania –July 31
- Great Britain – Aug. 2
- Serbia – Aug. 4
- Hungary – Aug. 6
Quarterfinals will take place Aug. 8, with the semifinals to follow Aug. 10. The medal round is set for Aug. 12.
