Santa Fe Christian Hands Islanders First Loss

Coronado can't overcome a 13-0 halftime deficit in Saturday's game in Solana Beach.

The Coronado High football team couldn't overcome a slow start Saturday and dropped its first game of the year, falling 25-15 to Santa Fe Christian in Solana Beach.

The Islanders (2-1) received a hint that it might be a long afternoon when Eagles fullback Tony Miro ran for a 62-yard touchdown on SFC's first play from scrimmage. Another score in the closing seconds of the second quarter put the Eagles (2-1) up 13-0 at the half.

It was 16-0 before Coronado registered its first points when quarterback Austin Denson scored from three yards out and hit Ryan Halvorson on the two-point conversion to close the gap to 16-8 late in the third quarter.
