Poinsettia Bowl Parade in Gaslamp Monday

The bands from Louisiana Tech and Texas Christian University will march on Fifth Avenue performing fight songs starting at 6 p.m

 

Festivities for the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl get under way Monday evening as marching bands and spirit squads from the participating universities parade through the Gaslamp Quarter.

The bands from Louisiana Tech and Texas Christian University will march from each end of Fifth Avenue performing fight songs starting at 6 p.m. and meet up in the middle at Market Street, according to event organizers.

"I can't think of a better way to kick off the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl festivities than with this thrilling event," said Chuck Wasker, 2011 bowl president. "The heart-pounding sounds of these two university marching bands will be spectacular."

The event will be produced in cooperation with the Gaslamp Quarter Association, ahead of Wednesday's game.

"It was a way to bring the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl game experience to the downtown area for the entire community to enjoy," said Jimmy Parker, the association's executive director.
