La Jolla Edges Coronado to Tighten Soccer Race

Rain, 3-2 loss dampen the evening for the host Islanders, who honor their seniors; Parra scores a hat trick for the Vikings.

Senior Callan Parra gave the La Jolla High girls soccer team just the boost it needed on a rainy Wednesday night in Coronado, scoring all three goals for the Vikings in their 3-2 win over the Islanders that tightened up a three-way race for the Western League title.

Parra scored the game's first goal less than four minutes in, and after Coronado pulled even at the half, she added two more scores after intermission to improve the Vikings' league record to 6-2-1, the same as Coronado. Cathedral Catholic has a slight lead over both at 6-1-2.

La Jolla (11-4-2 overall) visits Cathedral (13-6-3) Friday night in the final regular-season game of the season. If the Vikings beat the Dons and Coronado (9-6-4) wins at Christian (0-9 in league), La Jolla and Coronado would share the league championship since they split their two games, with the Islanders winning 2-0 at La Jolla on Jan. 28.
