The 31st annual JR Longboard Contest was held Saturday morning at Coronado Shores.

It was fun in the sun at the JR Longboard Surf Contest Saturday morning.

The Coronado Surfing Association sponsored event is the oldest continually staged surfing competition in San Diego County. It is named for the late Jimmy Reilly.

The contest started bright and early at "Shipwreck Beach" with a strong tide. Contestants of all ages enjoyed the surf, friendly competition and community camaraderie on the sand.

Competitors surfed in multiple categories: Men’s Open; Women’s Open, Legends (60 and over); Junior Men’s (15-18); Junior Women’s (15-18); Junior Boy’s (14 and under); Junior Girl’s (14 and under); and a new event this year, a Menehune Expression Session for the smaller children (10 and under).

Winners will be announced Saturday evening.
