All hands will be on-deck as the community comes together with boating enthusiasts and health care professionals at the tenth annual Sharp HospiceCare Regatta on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012. Hosted by Sharp HospiceCare, Coronado Yacht Club and Cortez Racing Association, the event will support Sharp HospiceCare’s Homes for Hospice campaign, an initiative to build hospice homes in San Diego.

The event includes all-day festivities as guests board sponsored yachts and cruise along the race course for a breathtaking view of the regatta and the San Diego Bay.

From 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Coronado Yacht Club, 1631 Strand Way, $125 ticket includes yacht reservation, lunch, refreshments, beer, wine and post-race party dinner.

The race, organized by Cortez Racing Association, starts at 1 p.m. at the east end of Harbor Island, winds around San Diego Bay and finishes near the Coronado Yacht Club. Racers can register sailboats to compete in the regatta by visiting Cortez Racing.

All proceeds from the regatta support Sharp HospiceCare, an organization that provides comprehensive care and compassionate support for patients and their families struggling with a life-limiting illness.

This year’s event is expected to net $250,000 for Sharp HospiceCare’s Homes for Hospice campaign. So far, the campaign has led to the completion of two homes in the San Diego neighborhoods of La Mesa and Del Cerro, with a third home in the South Bay is currently being planned. Leading the effort as campaign chair is Scott McMillin, chairman of the board of The Corky McMillin Companies.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
