3rd Annual URT WOMP, Bodysurfing Contest at North Beach - Sunday August 12th

It’s that time of year again! Grab your fins and your sunscreen and come out to Coronado’s North Beach (just South of Dog Beach) for the 3rd Annual URT WOMP.

This Sunday, August 12th, local Coronado clothing company, URT (like the sound  a sea lion makes), will be putting on their self proudly proclaimed “world famous” bodysurfing competition.

The competition will consist of three divisions. The kids or sqURTs, 0-13 years in age, will start the event at 8AM. The OPEN division for all the ladies and gentlemen fourteen and up will square off at 10AM in fierce competition. At high noon the HANDPLANE division will end the day off on a high note as they bring their mostly homemade hand planes to the starting line. If you do not know what a hand plane is imagine attaching a cafeteria lunch tray to your hand and then bodysurfing with it.

The event has grown in popularity from the first two years and with a promising swell on the way it should prove to be one to remember. Come out and compete or just watch and show your support for a local company. Coffee, coconut water, and snacks will be provided.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
