George, at 12, isn't quite that young anymore, but he remembers the fun he had doing crafts and running around, so he's one of dozens of middle schoolers who volunteer to guide the little ones in activities at the Coronado Community Center.

“Just to be helpful to the little kids who do what I did, it feels good,” he said.

He enjoys history and language arts classes and hopes to study French in high school, but as a guitarist, pianist and bassist, he often indulges his love of music. He likes classic rock, including the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, and jamming with his dad, Jose, a Navy reservist.

Though he has begun to think about becoming a doctor, his ideal major would mix science with an artistic minor.

“I'm more left-brained, more creative,” he said.

Being interviewed about his interests and accomplishments made him think about the future.

“I feel so professional,” he said.

Next: The city of Coronado will continue to offer programs at Coronado Middle School; the next big event for George and the city will be Oct. 28, , beginning at 3:30 p.m.
