February: So Much to Do!

Valentine's fan or not, there's plenty going on this month (and you have an extra day to get it all done)!

February: The month of love.

Bah, you say if you're feeling unlucky in the land of hearts and flowers.

February isn't just about Valentine's Day of course. Nowadays it's about the Super Bowl too, whether you're in it for the football, the party, the mega-commercials or some combination thereof.

There are so many events this month, right here in Coronado, for you to enjoy, from restaurant specials to 10K races and, in the coming week, a solid opportunity to support the arts. Both local theater companies have musicals ready to go, along with another production by the community's School of the Arts.

So ready for a busy February? Here's a sampling of what you can look forward to, with links to the event details:

: The Coronado Playhouse production opened last week, but you have all of February to see the classic Broadway musical (and a little of March too).

: The high school is carrying the heavy drama, with the students' final two performances of Ovid's tale of transformation Friday and Saturday.

: Lamb's Players opens its season Friday with previews of another Broadway classic, inspired by the street patois fashioned by Damon Runyon. The formal opening is Feb. 10.

Super Bowl specials: The ,  ($1 ribs, yum!), and all NadoLife restaurants (, ,  and , all-day happy hour prices) will offer deals. Each warns that you should arrive well in advance of the 3:30 p.m. game time if you want a seat for the specials and the action.

: Runners can rev up for Cupid's holiday two days later by taking a leisurely (or speedy if you're serious) jog along the route for the race, a benefit for the Islander Sports Foundation and the Wampler Foundation. Organizers said Wednesday fewer than 100 spots remain for registration.

Valentine's Day: Celebrate at the with the traditional (dinner, massages) or opt for a curveball – s'mores on the beach. At , enjoy , no less. Check back as restaurants come up with menus for the special day.

: The world comes to Coronado through dance, featuring nearly 20 performances by 150 dancers and musicians. Includes special nights for military and Girl Scouts.

: February's dance presentations continue with a variety of works in different styles presented by the California Ballet Company at CoSA.

Leap Day: Yep, it's come around again. It's a Wednesday. You only get a shot at it every four years – now what are you gonna do about it? Play hooky? Plan a long weekend? Do a Sadie Hawkins? Start thinking!

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
