San Diego is among six cities across the United States that will offer the program. Other cities include: Fayetteville and Jacksonville, NC; Houston; Kansas City; and Washington. In addition, online courses will be available to interested U.S. military veterans.

The San Diego course will be offered April 24 through June 26, 6-9 p.m. at the Pangea Green Center
4689 Convoy Street, San Diego, CA 92111. It will be facilitated by Liz Perez-Halperin, who is a veteran. Another course in San Diego will be offered later in the year.

Accenture recently awarded Kauffman FastTrac a grant of nearly $250,000 to help equip veterans with the skills they need to re-enter the workforce. The grant includes training, implementation and development of supplemental course materials specifically aimed at veterans. Accenture employees will also help facilitate classes alongside FastTrac-certified instructors who are both veterans and experienced entrepreneurs. The initiative reflects Accenture’s Skills to Succeed initiative, which will equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business.

“Military professionals are known for their strong work ethic, commitment to excellence, attention to detail, and ability to succeed in a challenging environment, exemplifying many of the same core values we live at Accenture,” said Michael D. Scimo, managing director, Accenture US Human Capital & Diversity. “By working with Kauffman FastTrac, we hope to help military men and women take the valuable skills they gained in the service and support them as they start their own businesses.”

The FastTrac curriculum is tailored specifically for veterans seeking to start a new business or expand an existing company. The two classroom-based courses offered include:

  • FastTrac® NewVenture™ which helps aspiring entrepreneurs determine the viability of their business concepts and enables them to engineer a plan to successfully launch their companies.
  • FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ which provides the tools and support to evaluate important aspects of existing businesses, explore next stage growth and opportunities, and reshape companies for future profitability and improved performance.

“Through this initiative, Accenture and Kauffman FastTrac are equipping veterans with the skills to create their own jobs through entrepreneurship,” said Alana Muller, president of Kauffman FastTrac. “Through delivery of FastTrac courseware, we will help to bolster their ability to start and grow successful firms by providing them with additional resources and relevant, immediately useful information.  The skills and experience our veterans possess – leadership attributes as well as the ability to manage risk and build teams – are strong assets to create and build businesses.”
