Key to Awesomeness: Liza-Jean dedicates a good portion of her time to serving the community and in particular to the game of golf. She helped establish the Coronado Middle School Golf program and is a founding member of LPGA-Girls Golf of Coronado, which was established in 2001 when she was only 6 years old.

She also has devoted several years to the Girls Golf Junior Advisory Board. “Liza-Jean’s input was invaluable in the growth and evolution of the program,” said Carol Tecissini, special project coordinator for Coronado SAFE and founder of LPGA Girls Golf.

Tecissini said Liza-Jean helped organize several events for the club, including Mother-Daughter Day, Father-Daughter Day, a benefit for Becky’s House, a San Diego group which serves abused women, and the Girls Golf Club Championship.

Liza-Jean’s golf skills led her to become one of the founding members of the middle school's golf team, a program supported by the LPGA golf club and later adopted by the Islander Sports Foundation.

Once in high school, Liza-Jean became a varsity member of the golf team and became captain her junior year. She also stepped up to coach the younger generation of golfers for the middle school team she helped establish.

The teen's commitment to service is not limited to golf. She earned those Congressional Awards, which include Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates and a Bronze Medal, by also being a member of the National Leadership Council of her church. Liza-Jean went to Peru with the group last year and helped build a classroom in Urubamba, while teaching English to children.

This summer, the committed student is working as a counselor in training at a Adventure/Unlimited camp in Colorado. She has already reached the peak of three mountains, each about 14,000 feet high.

In recognition of her efforts, in her junior year Liza-Jean received the Islander Award for Service, given to the top 5 percent of the students at the high school.

When Logan isn’t on the links or conquering mountain tops, she can be found on the field playing softball with the Islanders, another sport she’s played from childhood.
