Update: Dunk-Eat-Play-Fundraise

The community enjoyed outdoor games despite the gloom, as Connect-a-Thon raises more than $150,000, slightly shy of the 2011 take.

Fair-goers enjoyed the fair in the campus quad while inside the theater, to support educational programs.

Last year's event raised $160,000. By its 9 p.m. conclusion, the telethon had raised $151,549. Donations still will be taken after the broadcast's conclusion, at csfkids.org.

District Superintendent Jeffrey Felix encouraged donors to step up in the 7 p.m. hour to achieve a $10,000 matching grant pledged by a foundation.

He also said that donor support has prevented the district from making cuts, despite education funding woes, a theme for the adult speakers throughout the night. “It's only because of local giving,” Felix said, that programs have been preserved.

High school student Moriah Grant made a more heartfelt plea. Giving is “super important so my campus can keep being as beautiful as it is,” she said.
