Calling All Whiz Kids: Want a Prize?

Of course you do! Patch has partnered with Loews Coronado Bay Resort to offer a fun prize package to our weekly winners.

Know a fab kid, a smart kid, a generous kid, a persevering kid? A kid who is a little bit of each?

Patch has featured talented kids since the beginning, asking parents, teachers, coaches, pastors and anyone who just meets great kids to nominate them as Whiz Kids of the Week.

Well, Whiz Kids just got an upgrade: We have a prize now, thanks to .

Those who are selected get to spend the day at the beach resort, named one of the country's 10 best for families by Parents magazine. First, there's a free lunch at Loews at Market Cafe or La Cantina, then a special congratulatory gift and passes for an afternoon at the pool, all with complimentary self-parking.

There's just two little rules: The winners can bring along two guests, but one MUST be a guardian and the package MUST be redeemed within 90 days. Not too much to ask, huh?

Here's the criteria: Young people from kindergarten to the first two years of college are eligible.

We're looking for well-rounded youths, not just brainiacs or jocks. They can excel in any area, be it academics, sports, the arts or community service.

Send us the potential Whiz Kid's:

  • Name and age
  • School and grade level
  • E-mail and phone number
  • A list of one to five accomplishments, and
  • A 100-word summary of why you think he or she should be honored.

The candidate MUST be a Coronado resident, but can attend a school outside the community.

Send submissions to coronado@patch.com. The re-vamped Whiz Kids will launch Oct. 5.
