Are Women Safer Drivers Than Men in San Diego?

The short answer is yes, San Diego women are safer drivers than their male counterparts.  In fact, in America’s finest city, men are almost three times more likely to be killed in an auto accident than women.

Statistics from San Diego county show that between 2000 and 2009, 2,070 men and 742 women were killed in motor vehicle accidents.  In these fatal accidents, when a driver was at fault, that driver was male almost four times more often than female.

The main factor in this difference?  According to San Diego car accident attorney Scott Liljegren, it is the influence of alcohol and drunk driving. In fatal collisions where alcohol was a factor, only 1 out of 5 drivers in San Diego was female.  Overall, every 2 minutes someone is injured in a drunk diving accident and every 53 minutes someone is killed.

This isn’t to say that women aren’t involved in any accidents.  It’s just that women aren’t as likely to be involved in higher risk driving involving alcohol and excessive speed.  So while you are just as likely to be rear ended by a male or female driver, the chance of you walking away from that accident is much better if said driver is a woman.  For more information contact a personal injury lawyer in San Diego.
