Deadline to Request Property Assessment Reviews Extended in San Diego County

Today's deadline to request a property assessment review from the county of San Diego has been extended for two weeks, county Assessor/Recorder/Clerk Ernest Dronenburg Jr. announced today.

He said his office received nearly 800 applications for reviews last year, but far less this year.

"Only 299 property owners have asked for a review of their 2014 property values since we started accepting requests last December," Dronenburg said. "We believe this is because the county real estate market is growing dramatically. But we wanted to make sure everyone knew about the review process, so I have extended the time period by two more weeks."

He said the new deadline is May 16, and it won't be extended again.

Property owners who believe their property's market value as of Jan. 1 of this year was below its current assessed value can file an application at www.sdarcc.com to request a review before this year's tax bill is issued.

Property owners can also have an application mailed to them by calling Dronenburg's office at (858) 505-6262.

The 200,000-plus taxpayers who were granted a reduction last year do not need to apply again this year as their assessed value will be reviewed automatically.

All taxpayers who apply will be notified of the results in July. Owners who disagree with the decisions can file a formal appeal with the county Assessment Appeals Board. The appeal should be sent to the Clerk of the Assessment Appeals Board between July 2 and Dec. 1, Dronenburg said.
