Two Coronado Police Officers Honored for Lifesaving Efforts

Senior Officer Bill Canet and Officer Sherri Mannello were recognized last week in Coronado.

Editor's Note: Coronado City Manager Blair King released the following note.

At the City Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 21, two Coronado police officers were honored for their lifesaving actions in separate incidents.

Senior Officer Bill Canet was honored for his actions to revive a woman whose heart had stopped in August. Canet arrived within three minutes of the call and performed CPR on the woman after not finding a pulse. Another officer arrived and deployed an Automatic External Defibrillator. Fire officials took over and transported the woman to the hospital.

Canet drove the husband to the hospital and promised to pick him up, which he did four hours later. The husband said his wife was breathing on her own and had opened her eyes.

Earlier this month, Officer Sherri Mannello arrived at an assisted living facility to help a choking person. The man had an obstructed airway, no pulse and was not breathing. Mannello, with no assistance, moved the patient, cleared his airway and began performing CPR. Fire officials arrived and took the man, who by then was conscious and breathing, to the hospital. Each officer received a Certificate of Commendation.
