Update: Traffic on 4th to Be Disrupted by Road Work Through Mid-Afternoon

The work began Wednesday and caused significant backups on the main feeder to the bridge.

Update, 12:40 p.m. Thursday: The city reports Caltrans has not closed any lanes Thursday, despite scheduled 4th Street maintenance. “Traffic out of Coronado is moving,” the city noted, via Twitter.

The city was surprised Wednesday when repairs took place, seriously snarling traffic on 4th, leading to tie-ups all the way back to North Island.

Look for traffic backups leading to the bridge, 4th Street and any roads that connect to them through mid-afternoon Thursday as the state conducts a second day of road repairs, according to the city.

The closure included two lanes Wednesday at 4th and Glorietta Boulevard; on Thursday the work is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The work started Wednesday, and led to considerable traffic during a period when the city attracts a high number of visitors. At times, the city said, the backup extended all the way to North Island Naval Air Station.

The city will place electronic message boards on 4th near D Avenue and on Orange to warn drivers that the street work will occur again Thursday.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
