The Race is On for Coronado City Council

Mayor Casey Tanaka faces a challenge from Councilwoman Barbara Denny; four others seek council seats.

While Mayor Casey Tanaka, 36, and Councilwoman Barbara Denny, 49, face off in the mayoral race this November, four others are competing for two council seats.

The mayoral race features a widely expected match-up. In the council race, Councilwoman Carrie Downey is termed out, but incumbent Mike Woiwode is seeking a second term.

Woiwode, 65, is an engineer, who runs his own consulting business. The challengers are:

  • Richard Bailey, 26, a financial analysist with Goodrich Aerospace;
  • Susan Keith, 70, a community volunteer; 
  • Jean Roesch, who did not give her age, is an educator who currently serves on Southwestern College's board.
