The Race is On for Coronado City Council

Mayor Casey Tanaka faces a challenge from Councilwoman Barbara Denny; four others seek council seats.

While Mayor Casey Tanaka, 36, and Councilwoman Barbara Denny, 49, face off in the mayoral race this November, four others are competing for two council seats.

The mayoral race features a widely expected match-up. In the council race, Councilwoman Carrie Downey is termed out, but incumbent Mike Woiwode is seeking a second term.

Woiwode, 65, is an engineer, who runs his own consulting business. The challengers are:

  • Richard Bailey, 26, a financial analysist with Goodrich Aerospace;
  • Susan Keith, 70, a community volunteer;
  • Jean Roesch, who did not give her age, is an educator who currently serves on Southwestern College's board.

Patch will have more details on the candidates, including their reasons for running, Tuesday.

The ballot also will feature a proposal .

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
