Other facts

The following was submitted by Susan Ring Keith:

RESUME Upon her birth in Coronado, Susan Ring Keith joined a long family history associated with the Navy and our village. Her grandmother, Isabella Stewart Reynolds, first came to Coronado in 1888 to lead the Grand March at the opening of the Hotel del, and in 1922 the family purchased a home on Loma Avenue.

That yellow cottage, still owned by family members, was Susan's first Coronado home. Susan attended the village schools, and although as the daughter of a naval officer often lived in exotic places around the world, for Susan and her family this island was always, always home.

Today she lives in the historically dedicated Aldridge/Ring home on Tolita Avenue Susan was a Navy wife, is the mother of three children and now grandmother to nine. Susan helped form our community's first youth soccer team and later, with her children grown, began her involvement with the town she loved.

From Crown Garden Club, to the Floral Association, to three different terms as a leader at the Coronado Historical Association, Susan has long been a constant and dedicated force within our community. Three separate City Councils selected her to serve as a Planning Commissioner, a Historic Resource Commissioner and a Trustee for the Library. She was also previously elected to serve as a Coronado City Council member.

Her leadership and patriotism were recently recognized when she was nominated by the city, and appointed by the Secretary of the Navy, to be the Sponsor for the new Navy ship USS CORONADO LCS-4.

I have watched with dismay the overbuilding of our village, with no consideration given to the neighbor's property or the neighborhoods. Susan wants to help control that overbuilding! The new structures should enhance our community not reduce the value of our adjoining properties.

She will work to protect the future of this special community by preserving those qualities of the past that make it unique. She believes that by working together we can produce a comprehensive package that will control overbuilding by lowering the allowed F.A.R, increasing the setbacks and reducing and regulating design features that overwhelm the surrounding homes and neighborhoods.

Code enforcement is another major issue with Susan. I believe in a “proactive” approach rather than the “reactive” policy now supported by the present City Council. Susan supports the city hiring a full time code enforcement officer who can follow through on any violations.

The commercialization of our beaches, the cleanliness of our downtown sidewalks and our street sweeping program are other issues of great importance to Susan. She is a fiscal conservative and will keep a very eagle eye on our City's budgets and will insist that we live within our means.

I know the amount of time it involves to serve on the Council. But I have loved this town and felt privileged to have called it home. So I am stepping forward and offering you my time and my commitment. I am an independent candidate willing to be a team player at City Hall. If you are looking for a candidate with experience on local issues, a love of Coronado, and a common sense approach to government, Susan is your candidate.
