USS Vandergrift to Deploy Tuesday

Skipper credits crew for being able to embark on mission to Asia sooner than expected.

The guided-missile frigate USS Vandergrift was scheduled to depart San Diego Tuesday for a six-month deployment to the Pacific and Indian oceans, Navy officials said.

USS Vandergrift was scheduled to participate in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training, an annual bilateral naval exercise series between the U.S. and Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, according to the Navy.

“I am extremely proud of this exceptional crew,” said Cmdr. Brandon Bryan, the ship's commanding officer. “Their hard work and professionalism ensured that the Vandergrift is ready to deploy more than six months ahead of schedule.”

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
