Update 10:30 a.m. Thursday: The city reports, via Twitter, that water service has been restored to residents, but work continues to repair the problem, on 10th Street, near D Avenue. Streets are re-opened, but workers are present, so the city is asking motorists to be careful if they're in the area.
City officials have turned off the water and expect it to be off for up to eight hours or more in the wake of a water main break Wednesday in the area of Orange Avenue between 9th and 10th streets.
Police closed nearby streets because of the break, including 10th near Orange.
A spokeswoman for the city said the water shutdown is affecting the 900 and 1000 blocks of 10th and the 900 block of both E and D avenues.
Police say that D is nearest to being re-opened to traffic. Workers are attempting to clean up the water, which has left the streets soaked, according to the city, but not flooded.
The city had a sinkhole in the area last month, slightly south of the current break.
