Navy Wife Among Obama’s Guests

Local woman will sit with First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address.

A San Diego Navy wife who has moved 14 times during her husband’s career will be one of the guests in the first lady’s box at the State of the Union address by President Barack Obama Tuesday.

Adrienne Howard has been a volunteer for nearly two decades in family-readiness groups and military-spouse organizations, according to the White House. She recently started an Adopt a Sailor program for the community.

Her husband, Cmdr. Colby Howard, is currently deployed. Their oldest child has attended nine different schools.

The Lynchburg, Va., native is one of 23 guests of Michelle Obama.

Among the others are Adm. William McRaven, who oversaw the operation that led to , retired Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, an astronaut and husband of retiring Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona, and Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of the late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs.
