Navy U.S. Third Fleet Change of Command Set For Coronado
The Reagan will host the ceremony Monday when Vice Adm. Kenneth Floyd takes overs for Vice Adm. Gerald Beaman.
Vice Adm. Kenneth Floyd will take over the U.S. Third Fleet during a change-of-command ceremony set for Monday in Coronado, the Navy said.
Floyd will assume command from Vice Adm. Gerald Beaman, who is retiring after 35 years in the Navy. The ceremony will take place aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan at Naval Air Station North Island and include a gunfire salute, according to the Navy.
Most recently, Floyd was the assistant deputy chief of naval operations for warfare systems at the Pentagon. The veteran of operations Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom also commanded Air Wing 7, was executive officer of the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, and was an aide to the head of the Naval Space Command.
Besides his Third Fleet leadership, Beaman is a former fighter pilot who flew missions in the Persian Gulf and commanded the Navy detachment of the Fighter Weapons School, known as Top Gun, in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.
The Third Fleet, which was formed in World War II, commands Navy operations in the Eastern Pacific.
