Navy Continues Search for Sailor

Sailor hasn't been seen since Tuesday on the San Diego-based USS Boxer in the Middle East.

Aircraft and ships continue the search in the Middle East for the missing sailor from the San Diego-based amphibious assault ship USS Boxer, the Navy said Thursday.

The sailor's next of kin have been contacted by the Navy, but the individual's name will not be released while the search is ongoing. The sailor was reported missing Tuesday.

In addition to Boxer, the surface search is being conducted by the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio and guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher. Aerial searches continue, and have included planes from Coronado-based aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, Boxer and Anzio, as well as a P-3 maritime patrol aircraft.

The Boxer was in the Gulf of Aden, which is linked to the Indian Ocean and located south of Yemen.
