Latino Policymakers Gather in Coronado for 3-Day Conference

A three-day conference for Latino policymakers is scheduled to begin in Coronado today with discussions on Hispanic political clout and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

The 31st annual convention of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials will take place at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

Gov. Jerry Brown is scheduled to welcome the group at noon. Other scheduled conference speakers include state Attorney General Kamala Harris, former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, political activist Dolores Huerta and Fox News personality Juan Williams.

A session on the influence of the Latino electorate this November, along with how partisan gridlock and stalled immigration reform legislation will affect Hispanic voters, will open the convention.

Other topics at the conference will include U.S.-Mexico issues, healthcare and education.
