Late Naval Officer to Be Saluted in Home State

Flags in New York will be flown at half staff Wednesday for Lt. Christopher E. Mosko, who was assigned to the amphib base and was killed in Afghanistan Thursday.

, killed in action Thursday in Afghanistan, will be remembered by the state of New York Wednesday, reports the New York Daily News.  

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered all flags on state buildings to be flown at half staff in honor of Mosko that day.

The state bestows the honor upon natives of New York or those who have served in the state and die in combat. For more, see the Daily News.

The Associated Press is also reporting about time Mosko spent in Eau Claire, WI., where he graduated from high school in 2002.

Friends recalled him as a young man who loved soccer and was passionate about choosing the military as a career.

One called him “very self directed, very likeable,” and a person who had “a strong sense of community.”

The Navy announced Mosko death's Friday. He was stationed at EOD Mobile Unit 3 at the Naval Amphibious Base.
