The Altadena Town Council Land Use Committee Meeting agenda for Feb. 5 is full of ongoing items, a couple of which have elicited heated response from the Altadena community.
Land Use Committee Chairman Kenneth Roberts shared the agenda with Patch and noted that a public comment period will now happen as each item is presented. This was designed in hopes of achieving a two-way discussion for each issue so committee members can ask questions during each presentation and provide input from the presenters before decisions or recommendations are made.
The committee will review the childcare center proposed for a Canyon Crest residence that would care for 28 children and, if approved, undergo the following changes:
- Constructing a 180 square-foot one-story addition to the back of the home
- Demolishing the two-car garage
- Adding four surface parking spaces
You can see previous coverage of and reaction to the childcare center here.
A hearing will also take place at the LUC meeting to consider a temporary moratorium (delay) for commercial development for discretionary review while Community Standards District is being reviewed.
Also up for review is a conditional use permit to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption and live entertainment for a new building at E. Washington Boulevard and Altadena Drive that includes a new restaurant and banquet hall.

The next Land Use Committee meeting will occur at 7 p.m. at the Altadena Community Center Feb. 5.
