Land Use Committee Meeting: Community Standards District, Child Care Center

The public is welcome to comment at the next Land Use Committee meeting on Feb. 5. What agenda items below are you interested in or want to comment about?

The Altadena Town Council Land Use Committee Meeting agenda for Feb. 5 is full of ongoing items, a couple of which have elicited heated response from the Altadena community.

Land Use Committee Chairman Kenneth Roberts shared the agenda with Patch and noted that a public comment period will now happen as each item is presented. This was designed in hopes of achieving a two-way discussion for each issue so committee members can ask questions during each presentation and provide input from the presenters before decisions or recommendations are made.

The committee will review the childcare center proposed for a Canyon Crest residence that would care for 28 children and, if approved, undergo the following changes:

  • Constructing a 180 square-foot one-story addition to the back of the home
  • Demolishing the two-car garage
  • Adding four surface parking spaces

You can see previous coverage of and reaction to the childcare center here.

A hearing will also take place at the LUC meeting to consider a temporary moratorium (delay) for commercial development for discretionary review while Community Standards District is being reviewed.

See previous Patch coverage of the Community Standards District here.

Also up for review is a conditional use permit to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption and live entertainment for a new building at E. Washington Boulevard and Altadena Drive that includes a new restaurant and banquet hall.

The , and is owned by Dr. Nirmal Kumar, who owns a medical practice near the location.

The next Land Use Committee meeting will occur at 7 p.m. at the Altadena Community Center Feb. 5.

You have constantly posted your pro-Walmart stance, but since you didn't go to the meeting, I suppose the Altadena-Walmart issue isn't that important. So why criticize those that actually take action for what they believe is right for their community? A lot easier to post on a blog I suppose. Actions speak louder than words.

Robert, you are being obnoxious. All I did was ask for a report on what happened. I gather you are upset because you did not get what you wanted.

I believe you're upset for resorting to name-calling. I have great respect for those who get up and fight for what they believe in rather than those who sit on their behind and post on blogs. Get over yourself and go to the meeting.

Robert, all he did was ask for a report on what happened. Altadenapatch is a local news source with editors who actually respond to users. I see no criticism here.

Robert, I did not call you a name. Grow up. I am not going to every meeting where you present a fruitless petition. By going to Altadenablog, I found that the Land Use Committee punted, as well they should. The Town Council gets to review all proposed projects. Why do we need a new plan in order for them to make a decision? NBBA is just trying to delay and obstruct.
