Nathan Fletcher became in independent while running for mayor of San Diego.

Former assemblyman Nathan Fletcher has announced to supporters that he has joined the Democratic Party. Fletcher was a Republican when he was elected to the assembly in 2008, representing the 75th District.

In 2012 Fletcher campaigned to be mayor of San Diego and became an independent not long after the Republican Party endorsed Carl DeMaio. Democrat Bob Filner won the mayoral election.

In a message posted to his Facebook page, Fletcher said he doesn’t know if he will run for office again and is enjoying working at Qualcomm and UCSD.
