Navy-Marine Corps Exercise Starts On Silver Strand, Palm Avenue

Sailors from Silver Strand Training Complex North and South and Marines from Camp Pendleton will participate in an annual exercise in Coronado, Imperial Beach and other parts of the South Bay from Tuesday to June 28, according to Lt. Lenaya Rotklein.

"Dawn Blitz 2013 is a scenario-driven exercise designed to train the Navy and Marine Corps in operations expected of an amphibious task force," Rotklein said.

The exercise will involve the transportation of supplies onshore from USNS Lummus and USNS Curtiss that are necessary in a crisis. Once onshore the equipment will be transported from Coronado and down Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach to Naval Base San Diego.

Equipment will be moved during non-peak traffic hours, said Coronado City Manager Blair King.

"The Navy has assured the city that it will work diligently to ensure minimal impact to traffic on SR-75 and to Coronado and Imperial Beach residents," King said.
