Coronado Middle School and its Principal Jay Marquand were awarded a Citation Award from the California Parks and Recreation Society for ongoing support of the City's Recreation Department. The award was given out on Wednesday, March 26, at the annual California Parks and Recreation Society's Awards Banquet.

Coronado Middle School was nominated for the partnership that was created in 2001 between the Recreation Department and the middle school to assure that students participate in safe activities during and after school.

Recreation leaders Adam Galler and Kelsey Berg were awarded the Parks and Recreation Professional Scholarship for their hard work and dedication. Adam has taught many citizens how to paddle and row at the Coronado Club Room and Boathouse. Kelsey has been the rental specialist at the Community Center and has become a staff leader in supervising operations staff in preparing for events and helping customers with their Banquet Room rentals.

Recreation Director Linda Rahn received the Professional Merit Award for a lifetime of work and dedication to the Recreation profession. She was recognized for her support of staff's efforts to provide the highest quality services and facilities to the community. Her mentoring of many professionals in attendance brought her a standing ovation.
