Coronado Property Taxes Are Due

Hurry! Get those property taxes postmarked by Dec. 10 to avoid hefty late fees.

The first installment of San Diego County property taxes are due on Friday.

Dan McAllister, treasurer-tax collector for San Diego County, said that a total of 981,879 parcels in the county is a record. Even still, with the downturn in the housing market, the county anticipates that there will be a tax revenue shortfall of $48 million since 2009. Total revenue is expected to be $4.4 billion.

McAllister added that there are more people who paid their property taxes by the Thanksgiving holiday this year, a 9 percent increase from 2009.

''We are pleased that people are stepping up to make their tax payments early this year,'' McAllister said. ''During the past couple of years, we have seen taxpayers pay earlier and earlier. This is a positive development, as it helps us to reduce our annual delinquency rate."

County property owners are required to pay by Dec. 10 to avoid penalties.
