Incumbent Toni Atkins received more than twice the number of votes that her nearest challenger Ralph Denney did in their race to represent the 78th state Assembly District.
The redrawn district includes Coronado, La Jolla, Point Loma, Imperial Beach and Solana Beach.
The top two vote-getters will meet in the November general election.
Atkins is a former San Diego City Council member, while challengers Ralph Denney and Robert Williams are respectively, a small business owner and a Republican Central Committee member.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting:
- Atkins has received 59.57 percent of the vote.
- Denney has received 28.08 percent of the vote.
- Williams has received 12.35 percent of the vote.
