President Barack Obama has visited San Diego County in the run-up to the election. Republican candidate Mitt Romney has ties to La Jolla, and a Patch columnist thinks he can win.

In the 52nd Congressional Race, former San Diego Councilman Scott Peters is poised to run against Rep. Brian Bilbray with a slight lead over his Democratic opponent Lori Saldaña.

At the state level, Assemblyman Marty Block will face former Assemblyman George Plescia for the 39th State Senate seat while businessman Ralph Denney will try to unseat incumbent Toni Atkins for the 78th Assembly District seat.
